I've been looking to find a big single for my next ride and singles are pretty much limited to dirt bikes these days. I haven't seen any out there any longer, gone are the days of big velocettes, and goldstars. I would like to keep it as simple as possible with air/oil cooling, and as you can see in my tag line I already own a DR650, so as for road thumpers what are my choices for 650cc and bigger?

I saw that in cycleword a couple of months back, that motor is really great looking to bad the bike isn't. Some subtle changes would make it look a lot better, I'll have to keep my open for a good used one for sure. Does anyone know what carb comes on the bike, mechanical of cv carb?

Aprilia Pegaso was a nice bike, and there might be the odd new one lurking at a dealers. The BMW G650 uses a variation of that Rotax engine, although BMW are migrating the 650s to their parallel twin motor.

There are rumors of Triumph coming out with a single cylinder street bike around 350cc. The Royal Enfield 500 is still very much in production. The S40 street bike. Suzuki TU250 is a new fuel injected single. Suzuki GZ250.Suzuki DRZX400S supermoto. Older discontinued bikes? Honda 500 Ascot. MUZ or MZ Skorpian, and a supermoto. BMW had a trio of cool singles including the XMoto, XChallenge, and another one.

I like thumpers a lot also and have owned quite a few over the years.

Emissions controls have ensured that air/oil cooled carbureted singles are extinct.

That's perfectly fine, the new water cooled parallel twins from Kawasaki and BMW are just as good, as is the triple from Triumph. I don't see the fascination with old technology, particularly for a street bike.

Water cooling is just one more thing that can/will fail.

But fuel injection I would like to have, yes.

Yeah, I test rode an MZ Travellor (sp?). Great bike with full fairing and nice hard saddlebags. Should have bought it.
