I see on the news that a fellow rider died today. He was apparently a cohost of a show call "curb appeal" on HGTV. They had his picture on face book with an F800GS. So sad to see, sound like this guy was quite an adventurous person. RIP, Bill.
The accident happened close to where i live. With it getting dark so early these days, that roadway is so busy around this time of night (8:30 at night). Oak street is very dangerous when dark and busy. Bright brake lights everywhere, people talking on cell phones. Very sad story.
This is terrible news. I did not know Bill very well, but I had the opportunity to chat with him a few times at the Piston & Chain motorcycle club in SF. His passion for riding was contagious. He was always such a kind and genuine person. My condolences to his family and friends.
His name here on ADVRider was Roamtheglobe and he posted just hours before his death. It's truly sad to read and think about. I'm also a member of Piston and Chain and live a few blocks from the location of the accident. Bill had a collection of blogs showing the exciting things he did: http://www.blogger.com/profile/10072543419534601806
They said on the news that he died of head injuries. I assume that he wore a helmet from the pic I posted. I realize that a helmet is not going to protect against all head injuries, but I was wondering what happened and if he was wearing his helmet at the time. It always hits home with me when I see this happen to someone, I have the exact same bike he has in his pictures. He sounds like he was a super great guy and very adventurist, so sad
I live in San Francisco. This hits close to home and we've been discussing it on the bay area riders forum. The drivers here are terrible, quite inattentive. Rest in peace Bill. We're sad to see you go.
What a loss Bill's loved ones will be in my thoughts and prayers. Bill documented many of his adventures including San Francisco to Tierra del Fuego (with a Steel Rat crossing) in his excellent blog: http://southboundmoto.blogspot.com Rest in Peace fellow rider, .
