Great news! I got an e-mail from I-90 Motorsports in Issaquah, Washington and the KTM Demo truck will be there in Sept 28. I am signed up! Should be fun and interesting to finally test out these bikes!
Hey Dan, You must be one of the Griptwister guys. I went a couple of years ago on the adventure trip on my 690. You were the one with the front brake only SE? I hope to go again next April!
Well the day has finally arrived for a demo ride! Pissing down rain outside, but these are adventure bikes right? Gonna ride my 990 Supermoto R over to the dealer because it has some good rain tires. If I end up purchasing an Adventure R then the Supermoto R would be the trade-in or sales bike. The 990 Supermoto is probably still a much better giggles/hooligan bike on pavement despite less horsepower. Off road I have my 690r enduro which is fantastic. So the Adventure R is up agains some tough competition for garage space
Rode the 40 mile round trip in a driving rain with gusty winds. The demo was cancelled due to weather conditions. I can understand that. They had some bikes in the store though, so I got to check them out and sit on the Adventure R. Too bad we could not ride them but really the rain is dumping nonstop. I had an interesting reaction to the Adventure R. It felt BIG, long, and kind of heavy......compared to my Supermoto R. I just had this gut feeling that on gravel roads my 990 Supermoto R would be more fun than this new Adventure R because the SMR is much lighter and lower. No doubt that on genuine long distance adventure rides the Adventure R would be the better bike, but I came away liking my SMR even more! If I ever decide to go on some long adventure ride I will take my 690r. The 690 is way lighter, survives get-offs fine, and as I have it set up, has a 200-250 mile range. It turns out that the most tempting bike for me in the store was the 500 EXC! I briefly considered doing a trade-in of my SMR for the 500, but the madness quickly passed
where do we find out where they are headed i didnt find anything on google. http://www.ktm.com/us/news-events/events.html?tx_ktmevent_pi1[previous]=1&cHash=842e0c6b4399fa464ec77da52de82419
Is that you Dave? And yes it is Dan. Didn't get to make it to the demo because of my awesome daughter a dim being serious lol. Dave and I are leaving for Baja on Friday for a GPS update but would love to have you join us in April.
My buddy and I went to I-90 yesterday before he dropped me off at the airport. Damn...it was pouring rain! The new 1190R looks great, but my GSA is still safe as far as I am concerned. But I do like the looks and feel of the new 1190R over the old 990. The farkled Touratech 1190 they had there looked great too. I got up there to visit and trail ride with my friend, and he was nice enough to let me ride his new 500 EXC. After riding that bike up there, I'll be selling another bike to get the 500!
Cool! It was nice chatting with you. And for the record, you guys up North deal with so much rain, props to you for riding no matter what. Most California riders that I know don't go out on rain soaked days like yours. I enjoyed riding in the mountains with the rain. Except for the slippery rocks and roots, it was a nice change of scenery for me! If I didn't already have a big adventure bike the 690 enduro or 990 SMT would probably be in my garage right now. And now that I've ridden my buddy's new 500, I am sure that bike will find a space in my garage very soon. Stay dry out there and enjoy riding in your beautiful state. I will be back up there next year to ride again for sure!
