Anyone know if the Zumo 665 works in the BMW GPS socket on the late model (2014) RT/GT/GTL? The GPS Prep Package claims to operate the BMW GPS from the handlebar multifunction thumb wheel. The socket in the holder looks identical to the Zumo 665. My suspicion is the software is different between the two models but I'm looking for confirmation one way or the other. TIA Gerg
Hubby just ordered a new 14 rt and the Nav V from BMW operates from the handlebar controls. The other unit that fits in the fairing is supposed to be the garmin zumo 660, but it will not utilize the handlebar controls, according to the dealer. Hope this info helps.
If the 660 will work then the 665 will. I won't be able to use a lot of the 665 functions however. The Navigator V does a BUNCH of stuff other than navigation. It'll read the OBD2 (there is a ton of info available on the OBD2 port) information and displays it on the screen. The info I could find says that is optional so I suspect it's a flash to enable it. My new RT, which I pick up today, has the prep package which I think is all you get from the factory with the actual GPS as a dealer installed option. Still searching for info! Thanks, Greg
I am pretty sure the Nav 5 has custom software enabling it to communicate with the Bikes metrics and be controlled by the thumb wheel.
Update and close... The 665 worked as a GPS only. No control from the thumb wheel BUT it did activate the menu. Mine has moved to Texas and a Navigator V is on the way. Gerg
