Hey Guys, Planning a trip here and I'd like some input please! Looking at this file, can you tell me whether or not any of this is single track? I know there's a lot of trails around taylor park, I'm hoping to not get on them. Thanks!! Also, I need help convincing one of the guys in our group that he will need to rejet his Yamaha XT250. Thoughts on that? Much obliged.
The file you provided goes from Aspen to Gunnison: Aspen to Taylor Pass - 4WD road Taylor Pass to Taylor Park Rd - 4WD, very rocky, part is in watery creek bed Taylor Park Rd to Taylor Park Reservoir - graded dirt road Taylor Park Reservoir to Gunnison - paved road

It will depend on when you come to ride - I don't recall you mentioning. The loop goes over some pretty high passes, so it will probably not be open until early July. I will update the web page when it's rideable.
We're coming last week of July. We'll be focusing most of our time in the Silverton area. However, I have some good friends who work seasonly in Aspen and we're considering an overnighter there and back from Silverton at some point during our stay. I used to work there in the summers as well and I know we can't go wrong on these great roads, can't wait!!
I was scouting an CDR route closer to the divide. I have collected some tracks (from above) and hand drew other sections. Like to know what you experts think.
Day 061 Southern end is on roads. Northern end is on trails. Seems to get lost between Groundhog Park and Willow Park. * Leaves the Continental Divide Trail to use Tanks7 Trail, one of the most difficult single-track trails in the area, then later returns to the CDT at Marshall Pass. * I could ride the section that seems lost and send you an update. But it would have to be after the snow melts, probably in June. Day 061 EW Looks like all roads, OK. Day 062 Mixed 4WD roads and single-track trail. Some of the passes are a little difficult; rocky 4WD roads. Timberline Trail is one of the most difficult single-track trails in the area. Divide Traces the Continental Divide, which is just a line on a map, not a route/road/trail except by accident. Pearl Pass Mixed roads and single-track trails. Just looking at low resolution, it looks like it uses Hunters Hill Trail which is now closed to motorized. Hunters Creek Trail is nearby and a suitable alternate. PItkin Connector, OK. Tin Cup Connector, OK. Track 005 Never been there, but it looks like a 4WD road on the map. I wouldn't ride any of the trails with packs on the bike. The roads are mostly easy-peasy, except for the 4WD roads, which are rocky in places. But others have ridden the trails with small overnight packs on their bikes... Geek and his crew and the Monkey Butt guys. Oh yeah, and Steve has ridden everything on a loaded KLR650 :eek1 I'm not kidding.
Rick, Yes Divide is the Divide. The object is to document the closest route to the divide as possible. If some sections are very difficult they need easy way bypasses. I already did this for New Mexico. It crosses the divide 40 times. Jerry
