    The story that busted this

Yahoo's version - love the comments below he story

I'm told that in Polynesian the name Manti means the Fool of Fools:D

Sadly, something similar happened to me, so I feel his pain. This interweb thingy can be very cruel.

I was contacted some years back, by a girl and we struck up an interwebby relationship. After some months, it seemed like a very strong and real relationship. I sent her some money for a plane ticket to come meet me, since she claimed she could make my penis larger. Well, she never made it to the airport near me & I never heard from her again. Lastly, my little guy is still little. I contacted the FBI and they said she was from Nigeria.:rofl:rofl

    Some items to discuss:

    1. Is Manti a Tebow Virgin?

    2. Should he date a ND priest now?

    3. Are Mormon's more susceptible to these kind of hoaxes?

    4. Is his online GF like playing in a BCS game, they disappear?

    5. When U now get scammed online, will it now be known as being Te'o-ed?

Finally, Poor Umpah Winfrey - Lance's story is now dead.

What about Reagan Mauia, the Arizona Cardinal fullback who said he had actually met her.

"This was before her and Manti," Mauia said Wednesday evening. "I don't think Manti was even in the picture, but she and I became good friends. We would talk off and on, just checking up on each other kind of thing. I am close to her family. When she was going through the loss of her father, I was -- I offered a comforting shoulder and just someone to bounce her emotions off. That was just from meeting her in Samoa."

This is an odd fucking story.

    It's such a weird story.

He had to be in on it from a publicity/sympathy standpoint. There's no way that a 22 year old star ND LB calls someone they've never met, his girlfriend. He was probably knee deep in co-ed minge.

    Either way it's odd.

Not so sure....a devoted, very structured religion; a possibly naive, sheltered young man; some sick bastards in our society. It is possible he is telling the truth about it being a shameful hoax. Not everyone is worldly, even though they are famous. I can see a young Mormon lad calling a woman his girlfriend just from communicating with them, more often than not. It is not that far fetched. They do all the other stuff after they are married. I know that may sound ludicrous to some, especially here, but it is entirely possible. You don't have to be experienced in all things, to be a great football player.

As usual, reserving opinion until validated information is present.

Alot of truth to what u've written. And joking aside for now, I hope for his sake that he's not in on it.

But for an academic all american, he was a bit too foolish to believe all this. I mean if someone U knew/loved died, wouldn't you go to the funeral? Or at least read the Obit? So if ur a ND grad, whats ur degree worth? :evil

I would accept the naive, sheltered religious college kid thing except that I thought his dad was quoted as saying that she'd visited in Hawaii or something? I might be mixing up details. The whole story makes my brain hurt.

The only thing I've read that makes any sense is speculation that he's gay and was trying to cover it up.

I've also read that the network and ND knew about this before the game and kept it quiet. Which is mildly interesting. Makes you wonder if they told Musberger to find some hot chick and make a big deal over her.

Well it sucks because he seemed like a stand up guy but now with this who knows.I don't understand how in this day of instant texts, emails, Skype there's no way he hasn't had visual contact with her, I'm betting he likes the sausage and she was a cover

If the catfish is true, a woman on the other end was true. They talked and cybered on skype.

None of it makes sense though

I like Eric Davis take on it. There have been so many athletes that have done bad things to real girls and gone on to the NFL, what is the big deal about a made up one? He will be fine in the end.

Not like a LB is likely going to be a top ten pick anyway.

You have to wonder, after Manti made a tackle, was he celebrating, or dancing with his girlfriend? :lol3

Yeah there's others that have done worse, and these days this will make him more famous.
