A group of us formed because we always met up at the posted alternate (harder) routes and soon just always rode together. Other than occasional arguements about who's gps was correct, we got along famously. I'm posting the best of my photos and hope the others will do the same here. Putts, master cat herder Big sky on the first day Sven decides this view will do for the first nights camp Turned out to be a pretty darn nice campsite for night KTM orange on two campers in the morning Viola-tor on an alternate that didn't go (but we didn't care - it was still worth it. The gang rides down an alternate The alternates had mud And sometimes more mud Some alternates were a bit tougher than others The start of a tunnel alternate The tunnel ride begins Near the middle of the tunnel you can barely see the light at the end of the tunnel My favorite tunnel pic that I took There's some big mountains lurking in the background Had to eat some dust enroute to the big ones Some weather moved in one night Resulting in more of this Which slowed us down because of this Since the skies threatened, I added a little shelter to my bivy But the next morning turned out like this We were all excited about riding the Gravelys but had to wait for these The wait was worth it The Gravelys - if you missed them this year, come back. This ride is a must do Sadly, we had to ride down out of the Gravelys but canyons like this helped Sometimes it's a long way between gas stops and alternative fueling must be arranged Somewhere either just before or after the above shot, I biffed and broke my camera. So that's it for me. I'll try to embed some video in the next post. Hopefully other alternate riders will post some photos here. If not, mine will have to do.
Nice pics. With the weather threatening, my group opted another alternate and rode down the Ruby River. I really want to ride the Gravelly. It looks like a return trip is needed.
Looks nice, I like the bikes riding on the road through the meadow of flowers. The mud doesn't look like so much fun but it does look like an Adventure. West Montana is a beautiful place to explore.
oh man, great stuff! I have a TON of photos, but it will be while before I get back to my computer and start sifting through them. They will come... That one of me in the tunnel with the flash is awesome! What a unique experience riding through that.
well im finally gettin some pics uploaded here is a part of "team alternate" on the deadend.. was like riding through a golf course.. till the road ended.. but then we got to go back on the same it just ended?? i swear!! i don't think too many people had been on this route yet this year.. if it even was the route? worth every last minute play with it for a bit... then leave it how you found it ill put up more in a little bit.. as they upload
Great pics guys!!! Those roads look like heaven to me! Good to have met Mommer, Diek(Viola-tr), Dave, Geek and others! Hanging around camp with you guys was a blast, I can not imagine what riding with you would be like:eek1 Glen
it's cool to show up at a gas station in anywhere usa, on a bunch of really pissed off, fully loaded, monsters!! it was a little muddy buddy! nice line dan (bajaho) happy as a pig in.... well you know i can't believe i didn't get any pics of rudy.. man he hooked us up. it was a really great supprise!! but right after that we found a cool camp.. right in the shadow of an old fallen down mine/mill. there were some cool hill climbs right at camp.. so we played a little viola-tor layin down .. takin a little nap jonez was thinkin that looked like a good idea i guess? so he took the harder line.. on the "little bike" you know
Thank you Putts and MoonDogMt and everyone that had a hand in putting this great ride together. This was my first time in Montana and it is truly wide open and Big sky country. Also thanks to the guys I rode with, jonz,mommer,davestr,ABboy,viola-tor, one can, and the Montana brothers Justin and Jason, lots of laughs and great camaraderie. I think we made just about every by-pas and maybe a few more. My pics are here. http://www.mexicoshopper.com/montana1000/
Baja Ho: Very nice pics. It's really interesting to see pics from the various routes that the riders took. Timmer
