seat gets loose
 
I put a new seat on my Trek 2120 road bike last week & it keeps getting loose. I first thought I didn't tighten it up, but today I tightened it up pretty good before I went out & I get 3 miles down the road & I can feel it move. The rails under the seat seem to be the same size as the old one. The bolt that tightens the pieces that hold the seat rails seems to loosen up.
Any ideas?
Can the peice that holds the seat wear out? If so would a new seat post be the remedy?

take the seat off, and see if the rails under the seat are loose. I've had that happen in the past (generally not with good seats, but one never knows)

if the seatpost is worn, I'd expect it to be visually obvious.

The clamp on the SP can wear out IF you've been riding it loose. May be time for a new SP.

What seat was on there before and what's on there now?

In my neck o' the woods, I find out that I need a pair of new saddles. Anyone got a line on a cheep Flite? :ear WS at QBP is somewhere north of $70!!! :eek1

Could be the rails are a CH smaller...

I just checked. The rails under the seat are solid, the bolt that holds the pieces clamping the seat rails works itself loose.

Depending on the SP, I'd either head to the LBS to get a new head or replace it. www.pricepoint.com has some good deals on their Sette branded stuff. Looks just like my older Syncros posts.

Got home too late and had a serious crisis of motivation. Aka dinner and beer.

Tomorrow I start commuting again. THAT way, I'll be able to get in some miles without having to rush, rush, rush to get home before dark.
