Test rode a Kona Jake at lunch today.

This might be trouble. :bluduh

Thankfully, the lackey on hand couldn't do any better than MSRP in price, otherwise I'd be blowing off the rest of work this afternoon. :lol3

Still, it is a heavy fucker. It might be better to put the money towards a light mountain bike instead. :dunno

P.S. I reached a new bicycling milestone today, I'm now the type of man who will spend $60 on a pair of tights. :eek1

That's nothing. Come back and tell us when yer spending $100+ on shorts! :evil

I had a Jake the Snake. Good, solid, reliable bike. Not the flashiest, but it'll get you there without fuss. Redline's offering is a little lighter... Surf CL or ebay in the spring if you want a cross bike. :nod Prices'll be lower. :thumb AFTER cros season is primo bargain hunting time.

How about telling us when you really go Big-Time and buy a pair of Assos FI-13's. $240

I got upper 50's fully panniered. Spent 90% of the previous day climbing the hill, it was just starting to get dark when I got to the top. So I got a motel and sayed at the peak for the ngiht, and started the next day with many miles straight downhill. It's a good way to start the riding day, highly recomened.

I was actually a little dissapointed, I really wanted to break 60. My brother had one of those bob trailers attached to a slick tired moutian bike, and the combo got really squirely much above 40. I waited for him at the bottom.

Do you have an idea HOW much I want a track Paramount?

Road, enamel. Kool lemon is the color (aka yellow) with red pinstriping.

Yeah I know your pain - I want one - a chrome track 'mount. Hell yeah.

Holy crap. We're hopeless.

A dude mentions he buys a pair of $60 tights and all the other guys care about is the cost part. :lol3

Cyclocross practice tonight. Had myself some nice falls (mostly due to declipping issues), but I managed to make it through without smashing a testicle.

I'm really hoping I can make the first race this weekend. Kona Jake or not.

New Bike

I ride bicycles pretty regularly, but I've stayed out of the bike threads since I haven't been excited about one in a long time.

That changed yesterday with this craigslist find. Much better than my mountain bike for commuting and towing the kid in a trailer, which is what most of my biking these days consists of.

Just a basket, light, and fenders away from perfection. I love it!

A few pics from the race last weekend. This is the local DFW series.

I started out with the lead during the first lap

...but I've been off the bike for 2 months with a knee injury so I was overtaken after about 2 miles.

The rest of the race was kind of a training ride to get my breathing under control and get myself used to the stresses of racing again. I'm getting there and expect to be competitive in a few weeks (at a state level). I finished 2nd in this race but was a little shakey at the end. The tmbra race this weekend is at Palo Duro canyon (TX) and should be beautiful. I'll have plenty of pics after the weekend. A few more...

The finish line...
