Used the trainer sunday and again today.

With a tv moved down there it is downright tolerable. up a few notches during the commercials, down a few the rest of the time. More effectve than I thought it would be, and fairly smooth. With any luck I'll be in decent enough shape to do some good rides this spring.

I only have 40 miles on the rollers so far this week. I need to spend more time on them, because the -30 wind chill is not making it worth going outside for anything. Time for me to push myself to a metric century again this week.

I remember having a Superbowl party one year while riding on rollers, among 6 teammates of mine, everytime the ball snaps, shift into 53/15 and sprint on rollers starts, the rest of the game we stay seated spinning easy at 90-100 rpm in easy gear. I was able to eat while I ride on the rollers...

I am doing good to drink my water and watch the DVD's if I have them on. Usually if I am on the rollers, I am working on something, whether it be intervals, or smoothness, or keeping my heart rate in a certain zone. Eating, I could probably do something small, but I don't like to eat while I am working out.

I might be trying to get my band into the AMES area to play one night of RAGBRAI, but until I have a full time job with known hours and benefits, RAGBRAI is out of the question.

RE: benefits.. Don't be scared of a job that doesn't have health insurance offered. I was shocked to see how cheaply you can go out and buy your own. I pay less each month on my own then what my brother pays as his "co-payment" working at a company that offers "benefits".

After years of lusting after a Brooks saddle I picked one up from Lickbike.com, great price.

Now I'll have to break it in...

It's actually a tension brace at the nose. The seat comes wit a Brooks wrench, and as the saddle softens up and loosens, you can adjust the tension. It's got that old saddle look too which you see on 20's/30's era bikes.

That thing is beautiful - if a saddle can be described as such (and I guess it can...'cos I just did :D)

I remember Brooks from when I was a kid - I had one on my old Raleigh many many moons ago. I see the price has gone up a tad :huh

You know, this is their top of line Swallow Titanium, and it's really in the same price range as my Fizik carbon ($260), but again, the price was much higher elsewhere (got this at Lickbike).

I hope it breaks in nicely, I've got big thighs so this narrow style has always worked for me.

It looks like it "Catches" at certain points. I am not sure how it would be with actual riding, or if it would be really hard on the knees. At least someone is looking at different ways to try and improve things.
