KLR250 thread

Searched high and low. Couldn't find an official thread for the baby KLR so here it is. All things KLR250.

This is the place for pictures and short questions specific to the KLR 250 that you don't want to start a new thread for.

Here are a few resources I have found for the KLR250.

There's a dedicated KLR250 forum at KLRWorld.com Forums-

And a few KLR250 wallpapers I made -

Re-Jet?

I just bought a bone stock '05 KLR250, and am in the process of farkling. Questions:

1) How much does this bike benefit from re-jetting? Is this a must do?

2) I was thinking of using the DynoJet KLX300 kit, since it uses the same carb. Is this the way to go?

Thx,
marathonman

Probably not needed unless you modify the airbox and install an aftermarket exhaust.

Ok, next weekend I'm going on my first moderately aggressive day trip. I'm confident of the bikes mechanical ability to get the job done. I've just done the t-mod and filled the tires with slime. Any other small adjustments I should get done before I step into the breech?

rear brakes mod??

OK, I am asking for a buddy of mine. Thought I would put it in this thread as it is suppose to be a KLR250 thread.

The question is this: Can the rear drum be swaped out for a disk??? Perhaps one from a Super Sherpa???

you'd have to come up with a way to mount the caliper to the swingarm, a way to mount the master cylinder on the frame, and a new wheel to mount the rotor. anything's possible... it's just a matter of how much time and money you want to invest.

i think i've seen one person who upgraded a 600 to a rear disk brake.

never heard of anyone doing it on the 250.

if you want more brakes, you can put 650 forks on the bike, including the 650 caliper and rotor which is larger than the 250 rotor. if you use a 600 triple clamp it's a bolt on job, otherwise you have to swap the stem from the 250 triples into the 650 lower triple and then modify it to mount the fairing.

i have a thread on the 650 fork swap in the 250 section at www.KLR650.net while the 650's stock brakes and fork springs are too weak on the 650, they are about right on a bike that's at least #80 lighter.

while 250 parts are hard to find compared to the 650, Super Sherpa parts are even scarcer.

no clue if the Super Sherpa and KLR 250 swingarms are interchangeable.

Love mine ! I ride the snot out've it; nearly indestructible (far more so than the rider). It's my weapon of choice for off-road and local errand runs.

Woot! :clap

Liking my KLR250 too. Here's some crappy photos. Got it with 1500 miles for $2K. It's a 2005 model - the end of a 20 year reign!

new to me KLR250, 1988

....came with a 50 tooth rear sprocket, i suspect for a little more grunt on the bottom end from the stock 44t, i'd like to either replace just with same or get a complete stock set (front, chain, rear), just so you know, the bike is to be fixed up and sold as i already have too many bikes, so the gear ratio doesn't bother me much, anyone know a good vendor for the 50t rear or a good reasonably priced stock set, used is fine as long as minimal wear? i can't find the 50t listed anywhere for the KLR 250 so i suspect it is a KLX 250 sprocket, anyone know if these two bikes have intechangeable rear sprockets?

also looking for some other bits for this bike, as in my thread in "parts"

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...82#post9373682

my critical needs are a straight (non-lowered) sidestand and the fork boots

try out sprocket specialists.com. last year they made me a 48t for around $60 iirr.
anyone here that can reccomend me a new set of handlebars. the old stock ones have been bent/bent back, bent/bent back one too many times. something a little taller would be ok too. does it really matter as far as fit to the bike is concerned?
