Hi Viz Stich Recall
Just saw this on the site :norton
For Immediate Release MN 5580609/19/08 Subject: Recall of Aerostich Fluorescent Lime Yellow High Viz Garments Some Aerostich Fluorescent High Viz Lime Yellow Garments sold between August, 2007 and September 2008 may be subject to excessive color fading. Purchasers of these garments may return them for a full refund or replacement. This excessive color fading does not affect the strength, function or durability of the garment. All replacement High Viz Lime Yellow garments are of a more fade resistant Lime Yellow color which is similar to the color used in all Aerostich High Viz garments produced between 1998 and 2006. Aerostich pioneered High Viz Lime Yellow for use in riders clothing more than ten years ago in Darien and Roadcrafter rider’s suits. These were the worlds’ first rider’s jackets and suits to use a High Viz Lime Yellow color intended specifically to help motorcyclists be more highly visible to surrounding traffic. The specific Lime Yellow tint then chosen was the most visible color available without added fluorescent dyes. This High Viz Lime Yellow color was determined to be the most visible in the color spectrum by optical and vision research. Fluorescent color pigments all will fade excessively when exposed to direct sunlight, unless they are protected by an over-layer that blocks some UV wavelengths. Aerostich introduced the fluorescent version of it’s High Viz Lime Yellow last year, when this limitation had been beloved to have been successfully addressed. More information about this product recall program is available at <info@aerostich.com> or 218 722 1927 or by mail at 8 South 18th Ave West, Duluth, JUST FYI . |
Maybe they should talk to the folks at Olympia and find out why their much brighter hiviz doesn't fade.
|
:nod
But I'm not sure, the stich' might be a tad heavier fabric than the Olympia. |
I got a new RC last week and commented on how much less brighter it was than my olympia airglide. It is a noticable difference.

Funny
I ordered my High-Viz darien just after they released the new collar and better sizing but the Old V1.0 high viz Just after that they changed to the High-Viz 2.0 And I was pissed. Thought about sending my new jacket back to get the HV2.0 but now I'm happy with the OG High-Viz 'cause it's just better looking. You know more OG. |
WOW! To recall for fading is either really stand-up on stich's part or the fading is REALLY bad (could it be worse than the red faded?)
|
hmmm after my recent irritations with my RC leaking perhaps this is a convenient way out of it.

I got the letter today, with included swatches of the bad and good fabrics. The new hi-viz is noticeably LESS bright than the hi-viz 2.0, the new fabric also feels heavier in density... The new (3.0 ?) hi-viz looks almost mustard color.
I plan to take them up on the recall, but not go for a hi-viz... I'll probably do a black body with red accents. The hi-viz was just too bright in real life, plus I'd seriously look like a banana slug in the new hi-viz. Also, the hi-viz 2.0 showed soo much bug death. My suit looked like it had been sprayed by a dead bug gun. I didn't want to wash the thing, so I just let it ride... but seriously - it was starting to look kinda gross. |
Aerostitch changed the recall web page. It now includes color blocks, On my monitor the colors are very similar but the swatches that I received in the mail are night-and-day different.
My current thinking is that a faded jacket in the recalled color cannot be as ugly as a color-fast jacket in dull mustard. Yea, mine collects bug spots too, but I get into enough rain to give a very thorough rinse occasionally. I only get rain inside when I fail to fold the throat correctly. Has anyone used "UV-Tech" http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/...h-p-16473.html on, for example, a fade-prone red 'stitch? Aerostitch sells it and it's supposed to "reduce color fading". It doesn't sound like a complete solution but I'm looking at my options. |
I wonder what they're going to do with all this old gear? I'd buy a faded suit, in my size, assuming the fading doesn't affect the intergrity of the fabric, like they claim....

I too am a Hi Viz owner and have opted for the new color.
It is funky looking, no doubt. I'll make up my mind when I see the jacket in person. (I pursued this prior to the recall notice, and was able to retain my Darian until the replacement arrived). I should get it in a few days and will photograph and post them shown side by side. The swatch's were interesting. The recall swatch felt thin and weak compared to the new non florescent swatch yet is 0.002" thicker (0.0215" vs. 0.0195") than the replacement. |
talked to teresa at aerostich. i have the grey suit with hi-vis ballistics. these are not a problem....its only the hi-viz suits. however, she reminded me of the TWO YEAR warranty....if not happy, send it back and they will replace. did not realize they had such a great policy. http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/Laughing.gif

Got my NEw Darien Light...
Its does seem thicker than other DLs that I have handled & reminds more of my old Darien (3 years ago?) Color? I get comments & see the differnece in cage behavior... good enough for me! |
