Oh yeah, there's another 30-odd switchbacks and many miles of great roads making up the whole of Stelvio Pass but not seen in that photo.

More photos and videos of Stelvio Pass here

Ya, the whole other side of the mountain!

Those tires would work well on my lawn tractor - but not on a motorcycle

Modern cable brakes are light switches. Old Campy, Modolo, Superbe Pro have great modulation. A lot of control has been lost because the Japanese thought we cyclists wanted to stop, when we really only wanted to slow down.

Kool Stop pads = modulation. Modern cable brakes are fine if you use the right pads.

Someone say Stelvio? :evil:D Drove it back in March '10. Yeap, lots of slow speed switchbacks, but no trees blocking sightlines and much better drivers and riders and plenty of open high speed sections.

I love that vid... But he went left of center, so that automatically makes him a dick, and the vid sucky...

Don't get me wrong - I love riding the passes in the Alps - who wouldn't! The scenery is magnificent. I love the area. I just think Stelvio is overrated because it makes such a great picture.

I agree with the Stelvio being Europe's dragon, an over rated ride. But if you count the W side of the the pass, I disagree with the first part, it you like tight and technical, there is noting in the US to compare in quantity and quality of roads.

Stelvio is just as overrun with octogenarians in VW Golfs and RVs as the Dragon, at least in summer.

But, yes, there are some great roads in the Alps - from my three days in the Alps RR:

End about the Stelvio, yes there are a lot of good and less crowded roads in the Alps, but I have to ride it once or twice a year. :thumb
