Am I seeing this right: maybe his left toe was under the shifter, and either the impact did it or him jerking his leg out of the way, and he came out of his shoe....or am I not seeing something right.?.?

Sneakers are the first thing to come off then your unprotected feet bang the ground as you tumble. Ouch that looks bad.

Looking at that it looks like his ankle may have broken...it could just be the angle of the photo but his foot looks twisted at an odd angle.

The driver of the SUV must have shit himself that looks like the drivers side window that shattered

At least he had his jacket, gloves, and helmet on.

A tractor trailer on teh Dragon crosses way over the double line and kills a motorcyclist.
But the story is all about how dangerous motorcycles are.
FFS.

Another gem;

Quote:

With its 318 curves in only 11.1 miles, The Dragon does not offer the most hospitable environment for a tractor-trailer. It physically impossible for them to travel The Dragon without crossing the lines on just about every single curve, said Lt. Randy Ailey of the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.

“There is no way to keep semi-trucks off of the road because of its federal designation,
but we can write them (truck drivers) a ticket every time they cross the yellow line.”
Otay, so what's the designation of the Blue Ridge pkwy and Natches Trace? Freaking STATE!

Good thing law enforcement officials don't have to know jack shit about any laws...

They don't need to try and ban Semi's on "The Dragon"(:rolleyes). That makes them sound like extremists. They need to push to designate it as a Federal Parkway!

I think, as his foot pulled out of the sneaker, his sock was pulled partway off- I think we're just looking at sock flappity, not bone flappity.
Cool picture though; agree with the poster above. Nice fall colors, good contrast with the exploding glass, SUV color matches the leaves..... well done!

I don't know how it works, but big rigs have been banned from a 5 mile section of the 580 freeway in Oakland. I think it's to keep port traffic out of the nice part of town (closer to the hills) and closer to the bad parts (near the water and the 880).

It is very clearly marked, and I see a big rig pulled over at least once a month. It is a federal highway as far as I know.

There must be a way to ban them on certain sections of federal highway.

ttpete 12-05-2011 02:56 PM

If the sheriff put some units out there and cited every truck for a couple of weeks, the word would get out and you wouldn't see any trucks for quite awhile. The county would make a few bucks as well.

Sure. The county/State could push for a length restriction on vehicles on that section. There are length restrictions all over the country on US-Highways that are curvy mountain roads.

There will have to be an alternate route that trucks can take.

Restrictions will have to include exceptions for trucks that need to be up there for business.

Personally, being in the transportion industry, I have no idea why an OTR driver would take that route. It's clearly a knarly road on any map you look at, and I don't see it saving any time for a through truck.

I also don't see anyone ever getting trucks banned from US-129. It's a US Highway and not a motorsports park... :dunno
