If you don't cross the yellow that's fine, but this militant attitude is a big part of whats wrong with the world. If it's not safe or proper in my eyes, then I've got to stop everyone else from doing it, via internet name calling, legislation, or force. Guess what? Riding motorcycles is not as safe as driving a car, and lots of people would like to get us off the roads completely. Not everything is hard and fast and very few things are concrete. Nobody is condoning the target fixated squids running wide in blind corners, but who cares if someone straightens a corner if there is a good line of site.

And FWIW, I've ridden with a lot of guys that have been enthusiast for 30+ years, and I think they all cross on occasion, yet I don't see them running across the lines in unsafe curves "out of habit".

I'll get off of my soapbox now:lol3.

agree,if the said lane stayers ever complete an overtaking manouver on a curvy road, double yellow or not, because they have a good line of sight do they then fall into a death defying habit of crossing the centre line on curvy roads...I cross the centre line with the same ammount of care and attention as i do with overtaking manouvres.....since 1972

Basically, the yellow line is a social contract. Nothing more. If it wasn't there, people would still stay on their side of the road 'just because the alternatives are worse.'

Passing should be done where its safe regardless of whether there's a DY or not. :nod (just don't get caught!)
