Iron Dingo 07-13-2012 04:53 AM

With that much power the only fear is looping it.

At that school, they wanted the brake light to be disconnected or covered as not to be a distraction to others. They also ask mirrors be covered or removed. I cover the headlight now as I was amazed at how much stuff does get into the air. That was from a few years back. It isn't a sport bike but you can ride it sporty.. From this year, orange headlight. Yes I know those sport bikes will not wait for me, but it is fun to ride quickly and smoothly with them. To those inmates who follow this thread and have encouraged me, thanks!

Given that the mirrors are taped, not sure the point of taping headlights now that I think of it.

It looks like the tape is coming off on the back lights -- may have already blown off the front facing lights. That Blue tape comes off pretty easy in a little wind/head/rain.

It sure beats trying to get other types off the plastic lights without destroying them.

part of the reason to tape all that stuff is for distraction, yes, but also to make clean-up easier if you "Bin-it" so if you are not taping it well enough to keep it on for a track day, you are doing it wrong.

The blue painters tape lets lots of light through. So you can do lots and lots of layers or use it as the first layer then duct tape for the others. The blue comes off without much fuss or residue, the duct tape adds some strength and light blocking to the effort. In the first picture, I have small flashing lights on either side of the license plate. The tape covering those are the bits you see that look like that have come off from another place.

Gaffers tape, unless it's really hot, or you leave it on for a long time, it comes off clean and blocks nearly all light. Downside, it ain't cheap.

i unplug my lights and then tape them with blue tape.

Depends on who's running the show at the track? Sometimes, no rear lights is enough. Sometimes ya gotta tape everything including the reflectors on the fork legs and other places. Sometimes the blue tape is not enough. Fer instance, a T/S can be 'wrapped' in blue tape but must be wrapped in duct tape over that. The idea is to keep crash debris off the track yet still be able to get the tape off easily at the end of the day. I have seen the 'headlight tape must be wrapped past the edge of the fairing' so that it does not come loose. Once, I had to tape my instrument lenses. Occasionally, they want the mirrors covered to block reflections if they are too troublesome to remove for the day and clear packing tape is not acceptable. Same problems with glycol coolant as some tracks are more permissive and some are not. I had to run Evans (non-glycol anti-freeze) in a bike that saw sub-freezing temps at the track. The orange sticker on the windscreen might be the sign that the bike passed tech for the day/class? How did the pic get in the Dragon Fail thread? Not that I mind it so much as it is a nice pic.

I hijacked this innocently enough as a response to the sparky knee down pic and a comment about his suit. I replied using an older pic of me in my Komodo suit. Thus began the comments about blue tape, lights, mirrors etc.
