Dixie........Hmmmm....

Dixie has (like many Natl Forests) several parts/sections scattered about. Any particular city region? I'll see whats in the photo bank.

Capitol Reef to Escalante/Boulder Mountain is through Dixie NF on Hwy 12

(there is a dirt crazy old road from Boulder toward Escalante know as "the devil's backbone" but don't have any pics I can dig out- yet)

Dixie Natl Forest also involves the area 'round Zion, Cedar Breaks, and some above Bryce.....

Okay- Like most, way too many Moab-ish pics, so I'll sort them out some by area.......

First, Canyonlands- Island in the Sky region

This one is actually from Dead Horse Point State Park, just up the road, looking toward potash

So.....

The Northwest corner of the state is an old (and in the case of the Great Salt and Stink Lake, still) lake bed. Mostly flat and arid, and is very sparsely populated... Box Elder County is bigger than a couple NE states :huh

I did a two year cardiac residency after med school then ran like the dickens after working 60 hours a week :lol3 Now I specialize in diabetes and lipids, although that is morphing into a cardiometabolic specialty pretty quick. Love the work and the hours :clap

What's those big mountains in the Canyonlands?

The La Sal mountains are way off in the distance in a couple pics (east of Moab)......the others are just part of the crazy elevation changes/plateaus that make up much of Canyonlands.....

For example- The drop off the cliff at Dead Horse point is like 1600-1800 feet http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/icons/eek.gif, Island in the sky just down the road is similar.

Signal 09-25-2010 11:53 PM

Late tonight, thought I'd add another red cliff mecca- Zion :thumbup

"A man can worship here as easily as in any of europe's grand cathedrals- THIS is Zion," Ebenezer, and early mormon settler

Some of the lower cliffs just out of Springdale

Checkerboard Mesa

Angel's Landing, a truly terror-inducing climb to the top with narrow 12-18 inch paths cut into the rock face, some sections have chains anchored into the rock for stability- the 1000 ft fall off the rock face never ends well

Pillars near the Lodge toward the narrows

Hope you've enjoyed tonight's chapter, and a heartfelt thanks for watching and for the comments :wave

Mollies in Snowville has some good home-done-right pies :nod

I spent all of my summers through the 70's and early 80's working for a friend on his farm in Snowville. Some of the best memories of my life. Spent a lot of time and ate a lot of meals at Mollie's. Boated Lake Powel out of Hite Marina in the mid 90's, fished Strawberry Res. spent some time camping east of Heber City and lived in Santaquin area for a couple of years, was just in the Moab area a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for the memories.:clap

Snowville (likely) hasn't changed much :lol3 - All the way out to Park Valley, etc is still only scattered clusters of ranches, and really thin cattle/turkey vultures and the odd snake. Folks out there still ship the older children into Tremonton for high school, living with host families during the week.

My 12 yo son caught a 23 inch trout out of Strawberry Res two weeks ago- it was tasty :nod . Santaquin :dunno , good apple farm adn that "One Man Band" diner is pretty good.
