here is my winter project, the building season, now the riding season. It started as an 02 custom that I picked up on ebay that I tore into with only 5200 miles on the clock.I call it my xlcc or cross country. It reicieved an 18 inch back wheel to go with the 21"front that I levered on a pair of metzeller Saharas,a set of Ricor valves and springs in the forks, some Olins shocks on the swingarm, lower gearing as well.I cut the sportster gas tank in half lengthways and added about 4",it holds 20 liters now.I should have added 6" in the front and tapered to 4" just to hold more gas. Some more changes, modified seat, now comfy, rear fender, tail light, rack, boxes, aluminum skid plate, handle bars, relocated coil, horn, ignition switch, exhaust pipes, foot pegs, etc. This bike gets used on gravell roads and highway. It is a blast to ride and apply all that torque. To me it feels like a small bike for my size.Keep the shiny side up and let the Harley bashing begin.

I like amo paniers. Are they from steel?

Cool looking bike ! I think we need a thread now on "Sporty's in Wild" - lets see what they can do and where they can go.

Where did you get that skid plate ? Aftermarket or your own construction ?

Nice work, I like the transformation. I see you have a drive belt rather than a chain. How does that hold up if a stone gets between the belt and sprocket?

nofate,I have'nt had any trouble with the belt. There has been gravell go through the belt drive setup that cause imperfections but it dose'nt seem to be an issue.I remove all the belt gaurds to let any debri bounce out instead of being forced to go around the pulleys. The system seems quite resiliant.
