TKC Mileage (Whatcha getting?)
 

Just out of curiosity....

Good tires but way over priced.

2500 miles on the tkcs so far, the front looks like new still but i try to take it easy on the front brakes. just got a kenda big block today to try out when the tkcs wear out.

after about 2000 miles on a rear TKC its slick enough that riding in the rain is a sort of scary, I learned NOT to use my rear brake if the road was wet.

Ktm recommends 26psi for one up riding, 26 it is.
This is my first set of TKCs, after going thru 2 MT21 rears and a front in 4k.
The center on the rear is wearing down, the front looks fine. 70/30 p/d. About 1500 miles.
I like them in the rain. Can't really say this is a scientific measurement. Seat of the pants...grip is better than the Pirellies on pavement, in rain, fine on dirt roads and almost as good when slinging mud.
time will tell if I can keep my twitchy wrist under control and get some good mileage?

Shoulda' had the tire size as a variable in the survey...a 140 TKC on a F650gs wore out a 1000 miles sooner than the 150 on a 12gsa...same trip, same roads, same speed, with a lighter rider, and lighter load.

Hey,I run the TKC'S on a 2004 R1150 BMW GS ADV. I ride apprx. 60% street 40% grave/dirt/rough roads. I run the rears at 40lb. I get about 6,000 miles out of them.

I run the fronts at 38lb. I get at minimum 7-8,000 miles out of the fronts. They always have lot's tread left , but they start to cup and then I change them out. Not the tires fault. I usually check the air daily when I ride.

I carry a heavy load of camping gear and (beer cooler) for most of the mileage, so lot's of weight. If you keep your hand off the throttle in the dirt, you can get fairly good mileage out of them:lol3 I ride apprx 10-12k miles a year so i go thru 2 sets . Not bad for all the fun i get out of the moto. $568 for two sets a year ? You may need only 1 set or less... We mount and balance them ourselves.

These are great tires, they are not noisy like I hear :ear about the Hidenaus and Kendas. I order them from emoto tires in Tucson . The front is $120 and the rear is $163, as of today.

I agree that the survey should mention the size of the tires, if they are tubeless/or tube and a smaller gap on the mileages to choose from. 5,000 miles to 10,000 is a big gap. Thanks for doing the survey, and everyones input. I'm no expert, just relating my experience with about a dozen sets.

You can run them @115mph, that I know of with a full camping load... you won't for long... but you can.:eek1

I got about 7000km out of the rear on my DL650 VStrom.
They are MUCH better on road than the old model Heidenau K60 I'm running.
I thought they where good in the wet.

I put on a set in Tok, AK and they made it all the way home to western KY on dirt, gravel, slab. I ended up putting a little over 6,000 miles on them before changing out for another trip, but they probably could have gone to 7,500 easily.

I average 7 - 8 k out of the rear and a 2 - 1 ratio for front to rear. I ride my 09 1200gsa like a raped ape. Way more pavement than I would prefer, but I live in a concrete jungle. Scraping pegs is not hard to do with these once you get used to them. I have found though that you have to be easy on the throttle coming out of a turn or they will break loose very easy.

3-3500 miles is what Im getting. 150-70-17. 50-50 on off road.

I got over 20k on the front and changed the rear just after it hit the wear indicators at 9000 probably could have gone another 2-3k. This was on a heavily loaded KLR riding about 60% on gravel.

Have you had enough time to compare the Big Blocks to your previous TKCs yet? I have yet to run a TKC but I have run a Big Block and I got well less than 3K miles, more like 2.5K. If the TKCs can significantly better the Big Blocks I might consider them. If not, they too pricey for me and I'll stick to a Big Block front and a 705 rear and just live with less rear traction.

i'm on my last (of three) tkc fronts for my KLR. they seem to cup way too fast. I run about 38psi on the road and drop to mid 20s for the dirt and am pretty diligent about airing back up. I am getting maybe 6-7K total and the cupping starts to make the front end feel unstable. The current front tkc has maybe 3k and is starting to show cupping already. I am planning on reversing it this spring to see if that will slow it.

thinking about going with a MEFO front next time.
I consistently run a K260 for the rear. for the money it can't be beat.
