I have a dream...
 





Couldn't pass this up for a $100.
I didn't get any papers, or the key. I think it's a 1963 CA77.



What's to know?
Where do I get parts?
What did I get myself into?
Any free manual floating around?
Or at the very least, a wiring diagram?
What am I supposed to do about the key?

Ah yes, the 305 Dream...when I was a kid I called them a "nightmare". Now I think they are just plain cool. I wish I would have kept the last one I had.

Does the engine turn?
The petcock assembly is an odd rubber / cork type seal set up and will need rebuilt. Kits are pretty cheap and simple to install.
Carb rebuild is also easy.
If the engine was still in running order, the fuel system attention should get things going again.
The old 305's are pretty bullet proof.
I've taken a blank Honda key...applied firm pressure to the key in the switch and that left a little "mark" on the key blank where it contacted the tumblers...then carefully filed at the "marked" areas. Finally had a working key after wrecking one key blank. I had to wiggle the key a bit to get the switch to turn but it worked....or simply pay a locksmith to make you one.

PS - Looks like your dog is "alerting" on the muffler...probably a rodent in there..lol

I just took the petcock apart. This thing is so cool. I'm sorry I didn't get a pic for those who haven't really seen one, but its a great design. I have no idea if it works well or not, but it sure is cool. Who can I get a rebuild kit from?



What's the best method for cleaning out 26 year old gas? I drained it out, added some fresh gas and a little swish and dumped that out. The bottom of the tank is straight jelly. Lacquer thinner?


Manual - Is no one really reprinting these? I only see a few on ebay for $60+

How can I go about figuring what kinda bike I got? Anyone know a Vin reference?

Great score! Go to honda305.com for all answers to rebuilding the 305 Dream. There is a great forum with lots of members. The manuals are available electronically and there are links on the forum. Also, a site sponsor, Bill Silvers, has excellent restoration guides available.

The 305 Dream was an uncool bike back then-- everbody lusted after the 305 Super Hawk. But heck, we were kids. Still, for '63 the Dream was a wonder-- SOHC twin, electric start, leading link front end, and fairly reliable. I recalled them as being HUGE, but seeing one at the Barber Vintage Fest last year it was really tiny.

Super tiny. My 5' nephew looked right on it.

It's still uncool, but I think that makes it cool now.

And seriously, what's going on with the forks? Didn't get a chance to take those apart.
