Well here is a track file of the good ole Monticello Canyon trip that we all love so dearly.

It shows a track east and west of the river down there/back.

Perfect. Thanks.

I'm new to dual sporting but would love to hear about great rides in central NM. Where is this Monticello Canyon?

I finally managed to get my wife off the back of my bike and onto her own. Would generally like to know about good DS rides for a new rider who is trying to build skills and confidence.

Looks like great ride, do you have actual tracks?

Yes I do have the tracks. I just screwed up and posted the planning routes by mistake.
Somebody sent me a PM about it a month or so ago.

I will try to attach the correct file. Don't know if ADV is taking downloads these days.

Looks like it worked. Sorry for the srewup.

Monticello canyon runs for about 12 miles northeast from the small town of Monticello which is about 30 miles NE of TorC. There is an exit for it off of I-25 maybe 15 miles north of TorC.

The ride is a primitive road with dozens of water crossings, some as much as a foot deep. It goes thru several miles of a spectacular box canon.

Would this track be better for the KLR or the WR250R?

wbbnm 02-17-2012 04:52 PM

Either bike would be fine. I rode the full trip on a KLR. I have ridden shorter sections of this trip on my KTM 450. The 450 is a lot more fun in the hard sections, but it would be hell on a 3-4 day 200+ mile/day ride.

There was nothing that was close to too hard for the KLR. But I did have trouble in the water in Monticello Canyon with the carb breather hose being under water. The bike wouldn't run and I had to pull the hose up.

Unfortunately I got it too close to the exhaust pipe and it melted closed. So bike doesn't run again. I ended up just cutting it off above where it melted and have been running that way for 4 years now.
