Suzuki 1250 Bandit car tire.

Hi there. I'm going to be putting a Hannigan Sprint, on 1250 Suzuki Bandit. So, I lowered the gearing, and installed a 205/50-17 car tire on the back. I'll be installing a fork brace when it arrives. The tire mounted normally. No surprises. But, not a lot of clearance. The tire clears the chain and chain guard by only 1/8th inch. But, nothing rubs. It's raining today, so no test ride.

Here's a side view.

The stock tire had a circumference of 77.5 inches. The car tire was 79 inches. So, a little bit larger in diameter. But not much. I changed the front sprocket from a 18 tooth to a 16 tooth. The rear is a stock 43 tooth. Once I get the sidecar mounted. I'll see how I like the gearing. I may go up on the front, to 17 . The Bandit has massive amounts of torque. We'll see. Now I have to installed my speedometer calibrated and adjust it. Blaine

You can gain a little clearance by shimming the rear chainring and front sprocket out with washers. Not a lot but it may make the difference.

Hi there. I had it out for a test ride today. No problems. Nothing rubbed and it handeled pretty good. Hannigan will be mounting a sidecar on it, in about a month.

what kind of ( brand/type ) tire did you use. Thinking about going darkside on my recently hacked HD.

Thanks for the info and pics now i know a 195/45/R17 will fit :clap I run a 1250 Bandit/Terraplane rig with no gear change and I'm very happy with the bike as a tug at any speed. Thanks again. Bill {CSM back room}

Hi there. About car tires on motorcycle rims. The 15 inch car tire and motorcycle tire, inside diameter is different. But the 16 and 17 inch rims seem to work fine. When buying a car tire for your rim, check to see what recommened rim widths are. I'm not at home now. So, I can't say what brand and style of tire I used. I'm bad with names. I'm one of those guys that has forgotten the names of ladies I was on a date with.

Another thing about car tires on motorcycle rims. A lot of dealers will refuse to mount them for you. I have my own tools, and mounted and balanced my tire. Be ready to explain that it's going on a sidecar rig. And even then, some will just say no. Blaine

I would take off your chain guard,my car tire ate my chain guard on my Vstrom at 70mph and locked up the rear tire !!!.I also had about 1/8 inch of clearence.

Hi there. Instead of taking it off. I'm going to cut off a little more clearance for the tire. Give it about 3/8 of an inch clearance. Blaine

How about two 3/8" spacers?

newellbc 10-17-2011 07:42 PM

2 spacers about 1/4 inch would give me 3/8 inch. Thanks. I did't think of that. Blaine

Bandit 1250 Rig Followup

Anything to follow up about the rig? Just got an '08 with 3K miles to hack yesterday and just found your thread today.

Thanks!

Well I can tell ya that the tire he pictured there is a Multi-Mile Matrix Tour RS. linky

But it's a pretty common size. Tires By Web lists 32 tires in that size and the Tire Rack lists 87!
