Loose Screw

Not me, the ride.
It starts Friday in Kamloops BC, I have the bike loaded. I am leaving in the morning and I am pretty excited to get out of town.

Until I get back and make a ride report, let me tell you about last months ride to the Dead Zone in Spences Bridge BC. :webers
I love to ride BC, and I will make up any excuse to get there by bike, just a short trip across the broder and your at Harrison Hot Springs, and from there, it's all dirt baby.
Once past Harrison Lake, dirt roads and waterfalls.
It's all paradise, unless you are an unlucky dump truck driver.
Or if you happen to get a flat tire, while lost in the middle of a mosquito infested forrest.
And then your rimlock decides to crap out while reinstalling the tube.
Fixed that, more in a minute.

It was a little early in the season, so I really wasn't sure if the route was passable. None of the locals had made it through the pass. If I can't get through, that would mean retracing 70k just to get back to Harrison Lake, failure was not an option for me.
Luckily someone made this bridge the week before. Not too bad.
Then they made a rougher bridge a little further on.
This was as far as any rider had been up to this point. I think I can do this.
The bears were giving me stinkeye.
I thought I had made it. I have never ridden here before. Now what? A friggin landslide.
A quick walk around and I find a line through, I make it. :clap
Not so fast.
A few more kilometers up the hill and this.
A miles worth of virgin snowdrift, no tracks, and no telling if there is more up the road.

After a half hour of pushing and pulling through snow, I am rewarded with this.
And now it's off to Spences Bridge, yes there really is a bridge named after ol Spence.
There is no gas or grocieries, but there is a church.
There used to be some sheep.
They filmed the remake of Psycho here and left the sign. Norman wasn't around.

BC riding is always a good time. Friendly people that are fun and love to eat and drink. We head out for the trails first thing in the morning with an adventurous spirit.
The trails are named after the dead trees that have succumed to beetle infestation.
Someone decides to wrap barbed wire around their wheel for traction, it doesn't work.
A moose had sraped this tree the night before.
They took us to this 360 degree lookout. Snow capped mountains as far as the eye can see.
We dropped back down into the canyon,
and then head back to camp where a feast was being prepared.
Time to kick back and relax, tell a few tall tales and reflect on the day's ride.
My good friends Peter and Bob.

That was last months Dead Zone.
Stay tuned for this weeks Loose Screw event and the folly that leads up to, and after.

That must have been Kookipi Pass where the log bridges were? Did you cross the river at Boston Bar, Lytton ?

You are a talented and lucky man.
