Bergs Over the Rainbow
My first glimpse came about 10 years ago. I stood on the path and felt its magnetic pull. So strong did it tug me, I nearly forgot that which held me at bay. But, the wanderlust could not be quenched. Colorado's famous Rainbow Trail had my number and dialed it often. Got in my head….the way on old song won't get out. It simply drove me crazy. Insanity is my defense.
http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2642-L.jpg I was compelled to meet a stranger on the internet, and travel 2,000 miles for a rendezvous. Risking my life just to gauge the bravado of his riding skills (Highfive Cascade Tour). Purely selfish reasons, I freely admit, as I desperately wanted a good wingman to ride Over the Rainbow, and check those pots on both ends. I hear there's plenty of gold to share. All my Adventure regulars were sitting this one out. Some waved a white flag; others threw in the towel. Not capable or unwilling, each had an excuse. But this mission demands both! Too narrow or high, too difficult or scary. Worthy points which could not deter me. Determined to scratch it off My List before turning 50, the hour glass was nearly drained. The Mountain was calling... http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2578-L.jpg http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2561-L.jpg My search had stretched beyond months into years. A couple years of hunting and two more waiting, produced only one viable prospect on the DAY. But one was enough, when its a Cyborg! :deal http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc.../IMG2701-L.jpg Let's roll... http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2618-L.jpg http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2558-L.jpg http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2529-L.jpg Buckle up, its time to ride! I'm in
I'm in on this one Scott.
Those exposed narrow goat trails reminds of some of the stuff I got into on the Tour Of Idaho. It can give you shaky knees. Glad you got your itch scratched. BigDog |
This should be good.:eek1

That's butt puckering stuff there.:eek1

I rode a tiny portion of the Rainbow with HF a few years ago on our little bitty GasGas trials bikes and when he asked me what bike I thought would be good to ride the whole trail on, I asked him what is smaller and lighter than a trials bike?
Those 6" wide side-hill trails puckered me up good on my GasGas and I couldn't imagine riding it on anything bigger than that. You are a crazy man, HighFive. Crazy in a good way, but still crazy. Carry on . . . :lurk |
Looks like major pucker factor on some of those trails!!! :eek1
Looking forward to the report... |

Oops…..I forgot to mention: It's steeper than it looks in the photos. :lol3
Much steeper http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2704-L.jpg Rocky-er too http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2631-L.jpg http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2628-L.jpg Imagine 5 miles of this uphill... http://highfive.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...SAW-2636-L.jpg ...that would be the easier flat & wide sections. Scott- To an old geezer with a balance problem, that ledge photo is pretty steenking scary. Looks like a good trip though and I can't wait to see the rest.
