Why My V-Twin is the Shiznit - Post Up
I loves me a V-Twin, that low end power does it for me, how about U??
My much modded '02 VTR http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...psb3fabac6.jpg some Changes made = Ohlins rear, Racetech springs, heated grips, Givi Top Case http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...2/IMAG0665.jpg Was thinking of selling it, but fcuk ell, there's nothing wrong w/ it, So she's mine until it dies:evil:clap:freaky I love U VTR1000F Rock On Sporting VTwins |
You should have put "sporting" in the title. Now this is going to turn into another Harley circle jerk thread. As if we don't already have enough of those...

I've always preferred that engine layout as well. My '99 SV650 and my Ducati 900ss both have that perfect blend of torque and linear HP curve that makes riding them so enjoyable. I can be in a 35 mph zone on my SV and be in second gear or 6th, it does not care.

Oh yea, and I love the VTR, I came soooo close to buying one about ten years ago but I found a fantastic deal on my Ducati. I know the Honda would leave it in the dust but I always wanted to try the pasta. It's a little temperamental but easy to work on and wonderful to sport tour on with a Sargent seat and bar risers.

V-Twins have a heart - but only Honda can ruin that :huh I rode30 miles on a VTR a couple of years back - after just stepping off a TL1000S Suzook - and the Honda was a real let down to be honest !!!
Gotta admit - its an H-D or nothing. |

Well, I was going to tell you about my Harley, until LuciferMutt warned me off.

I bought a Duc 900SS, I gave the key to my wife to let her try it. What a mistake, she loved it so much we now have two. What else could you really say to extol the virtues of a v-twin. Most are so forgiving that they make great road bikes.
No matter what you say about H-D, you have to give them credit, they found something that works for their clientele and have stuck with it. A great case for knowing your market. |
:lol3
I'm not bashing HD, but suggesting it would be nice to have a thread about V-twin bikes that doesn't turn almost solely into a HD thread, as most of them do. Hell...lately I've been having sinful thoughts about several HDs. :yikes |
There are other motors that sound as badazz as a V-motor? Guess not...
The reality is that MyVTwin is the shizzle cause its tuned to sound as throaty as a BigBlock and deliver fat stump pulling torque. Of course the crossplane and triple guys will debate that they have sound too, but they don't gots the "V"... The other factor to consider is that a guy could have say, a double v-twin, like a VFR on FCR's and still sound as cool as we do. Better include them boys as well, since they can really appreciate the key elements.:evil |
non HD V-twins are real cool sounding engines with the right pipes, but nothing sounds better than a 1st gen Vmax punched & piped http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckL4w...eature=related :evil

Might be the video, but that sounds fucking terrible. In general though, V4s are cool sounding engines. |
I think a twin works best for motorcycles in the real world. I favor the Ducati most, but second goes to any other 90º V-twin (Guzzi, Honda, Suzuki). The flat twin works pretty well (BMW). Slightly narrowed V-twins (Aprilia, KTM, Buell Rotax, H-D V-Rod) can work well with balance shafts, although I don't like the sounds as well, and the engineering purist in me doesn't like the idea of creating an unbalanced engine in the first place and then bodging it into submission. Parallel twins have their faults, but have made for some very nice bikes (Triumphs, Nortons, Yamaha TDM, a few Kawasakis). Narrow-angle V-twins of 50º or less (most cruisers) are the last of the group, but still can be quite satisfying if properly applied.
I like any of those better than a four, or a triple, for a bike. OTOH, there's nothing like a straight six, for any engine. PhilB |
