Which Struts/Shocks For My Car?
I've got an '04 Mazda 3 hatch, 93K miles, and definitely due for shocks.

Had previous cars with Konis, another with adjustable Tokico Illuminas, but this time just looking for original equipment type.

Thinking maybe KYB's? Priced them locally for a little under $400 for a set of 4.

Anybody have any ideas or recommendations?

I've had KYBs on a couple different cars. I think they are the best dollar value. Both were the "Gas Adjust" model. No issues.

KYBs are OEM for many Japanese makes. Good stuff!

I put KYB shocks on my Miata almost 7 years ago and they are still performing well.

KYB GR-2's if they still make them. Non-adjustable, but just fine for daily drivers.

I put some KYB's on the back of my Element a few months ago. Borrowed spring compressors, no alignment needed. Probably took me a good 4 hours total time, I have previous auto repair experience.

FYI on parts purchase. I shop online a lot at Advance Auto parts website. Log in/create an account for email specials. I typically get a 20% off email, and see a 20% off web bought parts banner when shopping. Research and buy online, pick up at your local store. Saves me quite a bit of cash.

+1 on the KYB GR-2. Good strut for the money. Check out Rock Auto ( Front struts are around $86 ea. Rear are $39 ea. Quick shipping, easy to use website.

I have had Bilstein HD's on my '01 Jetta for 400,000 miles. They pound like a fricken jackhammer on cracked/broken/seemed pavement. They are fairly durable, 200,000 before replacements, but they are harsh as shit. I tried the Bilstein T/C's, bagged out in 80K. A much more compliant ride though.
