Anybody else shopping the 2013 FZ8 ?
Was seriously considering buying a leftover 2011 FZ8 untill I saw the specs on the 2013 FZ8 with the upgraded suspension. Mine will be here sometime in March. My 08 Bandit1250 has been a good bike but it's time for a new ride.

I really like it. The paint scheme is pretty nice along with the new suspenders...we shall see. really like the cb1100 too.

Well that blows (suspension-wise). I picked up a leftover '11 back in March and put on about 6k so far. I was in between this and the CB1000R. The dealership knocked off almost $1500 from the tag so I walked out with it for $7k. Couldn't justify an extra $3.5k for the CB.

Good little bike but does seem like it's a bit restrained for an 800. I'm sure a chip and pipe will break it free. I really can't complain about the suspension. Seems fine for me at 145lbs. Ergos and nice (I'm 5'4"). I can put on 500 miles in a day easily without feeling like ass afterwards.

Handles real well. Really nimble and light. Stops on a dime. Gearbox appears a bit clunky but seems to be still breaking in. Has a little oomph-kicker at 3.5k RPMs and then a big one at 6k.

I got this before knowing the CB1100 was coming to the US so I might have to trade in. The FZ8 is a nice bike but I have a thing for the old-looking CB's.

I'm shopping now. One local dealer has a couple of '12s left that i might be able to deal on. Still pondering whether to wait and get the '13 with better suspension.

Also shopping at this time. Dealer has several 12's still available and indicated that I could probably pick one up for around $7,600. The 13's are suggested at $8,800. I'm down sizing from a fj1200. Like the look, weight of the FZ8 but a bit concerned about the lack of aftermarket stuff(that will come with time I suppose). Want to be able to use it as a tourer as well as commuter. Indicated gas mileage could be a little better as well, but that I can overlook as everything I've looked at doesn't get the best of mileage.

why not get a leftover for cheap and the money you save will more than cover suspension work.
racetech springs for front and rear are about $300-400 at most which is a hell of a lot less than $1500
or you could do an R6 fork swap for around $400 plus another $100-150 for a rear shock. and then they would be adjustable.

on the other hand i feel that if i bought the FZ8 which uses an almost identical frame to the FZ1, that i would wish i had that extra power and that sweet 5-valve Genesis motor. and if suspension matters, the 1 has that covered too. also a naked conversion is cheaper than a faired conversion, if you dont like the set-up you start with.

The only reason that i might buy the FZ8 would be for gas mileage. where the FZ1 only gets around 35-40ish i would imagine the 8 does better.

Hear you on the FZ1....for me, I just don't need that extra power (don't use what I have now in the 1200). Your right about the FZ1 mileage but the 8 is listed at 39 and I suspect that you should be able to get around 45 out of it.

I'm poking around at one for next year. I currently have an FZ6. Only thing limiting to me is lack of any wind protection. I do 2-3 day rides on mine from time to time, so having that quarter fairing is a huge thing for me.

If you look closely at theFZ8's tail section, you'll note that there are no grab rails or clips to secure luggage. If you're considering using it for a tourer, you're committed to getting a rear rack. The aftermarket grab rails apparently require modifications to the tail housing. Me...I like being able to throw soft luggage with a tail bag on.

Checking the Yammy website, grab rails are an available accessory...

Last year's model compared very nicely to the Street Triple R in a test conducted by Cycle World. In fact, it ranked ahead of the F800F and the Duc...

The only problems mentioned, as I recall, was a weak suspension and the styling flaw of the can.

The 2013 FZ8 appears to have these problems corrected.

From the website, a 2013 model can be had for less than $10k with the accessories I'd choose, including a rad screen,
engine guard, fly screen, grab rails, and center stand.

Might drop by the local dealership to find real world, OTD numbers....

I am still waiting on reviews of the 2013 fz8

Tango59 12-24-2012 08:20 PM

I was at my local dealer the other day. the 2013 FJR was the only new yamaha they had. ETA on the 13 FZ8 is still march. My luggage racks have always been bunge cords.

Mk5mike 12-25-2012 12:44 PM

Sat on one at the long beach IMS and no seat is great feeling. Just can't wait to read some reviews on how the new fork and shock and ECU and exhaust turn out compared to the 2012.
