Ducati E900 Elefant high mile

Looking at a 1994 Elefant.
Has 83,000 KM or about 52,000 Miles

Only mods are pod type filter and a rejet. Original owner.(older man now in a wheelchair). Bike cranks right up and sounds/idles fine. No lack of power from i can tell. Has no service records but he says everything was done at proper intervals.

Any real concerns when a Fant has this kind of mileage? Any telltale signs i should keep an eye out for?

Thanks for any help. Look forward to being a first time Ducati owner.

Those engines go forever should be fine.

If it ain't rattling very bad (with the clutch disengaged) and it ain't smoking, just put some fresh belts on and check the valve clearance. You'll most likely have plenty of life left. Check for snapped head studs also (oil leakage at head and the nuts will spin freely.) If they haven't broken by now they've either been replaced or are gonna be fine. Just don't wind it up over 7500 if it's the original studs. No need to anyway. It's a Ducati, and a tuned for grunt one at that. You're gonna love riding it.

Just bought one with similar miles - I am not worried.

My wife's bike has almost 30K on it - running like a top.

Dead simple motors, easy to wrench. keep up with the valves and belts and you are good!

Rear suspension might need to be taken apart and greased and/or the bearings replaced.

If you haven't found it already www.elefantadventurebikes.com and check out the google group for the same. Also - Facebook Cagiva Elefant group - all excellent sources.

I have over 50K on my Cagiva Gran Canyon which has the air cooled 2V 900cc Ducati motor in it with out a problem.....

PhilB over on the Ducati Monster Forum has over 200k miles on his 2V 900 Monster (same engine).
There are several other examples of >100k miles 900 2v motors.

As was stated above, maintain valve clearances and replace belts when due and the engine will outlast the other components of the bike.
