Fully Rhinoed Ural sidecar

I have a thread over on Soviet Steeds that documents how I referbished my '07 Ural Patrol. It started out as "The sad state of my Ural" to "Not so sad state of my Ural total sidecar rebuild" The only metal that is not lined is the gas tank. The rear fender was done 2 years ago. That's when I decided to do more parts. I ride my rig all year. In Ohio they use rock salt and cenders or slag and some sand. The front part of the tub was rusted through in spots. Every place it had been spot welded was a place for the metal to rust. I removed as much rust as I could, used POR over the remaining rust, prepaired the surfaces myself and droped it off at the local Rhino dealer. I am very happy with how it turned out. I'm still bolting thngs together. Probably gonna ride the rig to work on Tue. Has any one painted over Rhino and had it stick? I have a test piece to practice on any tips would be appreceiated.

Full frontal Rhino

Hi, I use Photobucket to host/post picks on ADV, free and easy. If you want to PM me with your photos or direct me to them II will post them for you. I'd like to see your rig (likely I am not alone, for once!).

I still don't understand why people use SMugMug either.

ImageShack has been my place to place photos and show them to people, for free, for a long time now. It really ain't that hard, and that link you gave requires permissions to see anything.

I also use Photobucket - I also don't understand how/why people can't figure it out. It's all point and click - if you can navigate a web page and post in a forum, you can upload a pic and then post it in a post :D

Claude,
That does not look like Rhino linning.
I called Rhino tech support and they said their linning would not stick to allumium. But did not know why it wouldn't and they would not say why. So how is it holding up?

that Rhino lined tub looks great. Would like to see a pic of your hack once you get the car mated back up to it. Thanks for posting.

:clap

That looks really good and durable, how many pounds of material went on it?

llirttoc 12-18-2012 06:48 AM

Only 10 lbs. It's not as heavy as everyone thinks.

looks good.. am considering that myself.. what happens when it chips?? can it be touched up?

llirttoc 12-18-2012 01:29 PM

They tell me it can be patched. I doubt it chips, maybe a gouge from some thing sharp.

Black bed liner on the floor of a satin black sidecar isn't much of an image, but if you look thru this thread you can see it on the corners of the tank and under the tank bag.Duplicolor is the water based stuff

I slid my Elefant down a gravel road I masked off the scuffed area sanded a bit and rolled water based bedliner on them and matched the other side to it looks ok is functional.DB
