Went & collected my new RT on Saturday to replace the one totalled by my blind, geriatric, senile, brain dead neighbour.....:moon

Obviously the dark blue is unlucky, so Titan Silber it is then......:):

NICE! Did you paint the cases or does BMW provide them that way?

Dutchman 12-04-2001 08:51 AM

The BMW dealer painted them at my request 200.00

and well worth it.....they're gorgeous!!!!!!:nod :nod :nod

Keep the new bike away from your neighbors house until he gives up his license....geez!

Dutchman....what does your 200.00 convert to in USD approximately???

Laura
PS: The AquaMint is the luckiest of colors...and that can't hurt.

stevenknapp 12-04-2001 09:58 AM

The generic conversion from GBP to USD is multiply by 1.6.

Thanks Steve

..... $320.00 USD....not bad for both bag lids and the topcase lid.

Who does that here in the States....anyone know?

Any good bodyshop should be able to do it. They would need a few things:
- The paint code (to match the color)
- The brains to paint on plastic (which shouldn't be that rare as Saturns, bumpers, and the like are also plastic).

Call your dealer, see if they have a shop that does the work, otherwise try calling good body shops.

Dutchman 12-04-2001 11:49 AM

The case lids are textured for a reason: to provide a key for paint application.

A very thick primer/surfacer is applied to de-greased lids & when dry, rubbed smooth.

The paint used is slightly different to that used to paint metal car panels in that it is flexible. Your paint shop will know the technology as it is the same a used on plastic car bumpers.

As well as looking great this finish is also surprisingly durable, and all three of my previous RT's have had the case lids painted and have lasted very well in all conditions (my kids are old enough not to even TOUCH my motorcycles!)

That's about it for painted case lids.............

That sure is one sweet looking RT, I was struck by the understated elegance of the Titan Silver RT at the other day. The cases just make it soooo special.
