Aeroquip fuel line project
 
After installing the rear fuel tank on an SE I don't feel comfortable with the rubber fuel line being exposed and am thinking of replacing all the lines and fittings with Aeroquip lines and quick disconnect fittings. Hopefully making it easier to remove the tank as well.

Before I go down this road has anyone else done this or have any tips?

Completely unnecessary... but if you must, avoid the SS hose at all costs. Opt for their Kevlar product.

I think settling for a quality Gates FI hose will serve you well.

I Think Replacing The Hoses Is Overkill But Hey, While Your At It. The Quick Disconnect Is Useful Depending On How Your Tank Is Attached but more so for removing the front tank than your aux. (caps screwing up on phone, too lazy to fix).

Goodrich hose same quality cheaper...

They sell a plastic coated version that keep the stainless wire in place and you don't get poked by itty bitty razor sharp barbs.

Fragola Fittings are also a good deal, same if not better quality than the Aeroquipe, and about 1/3 the cost.

Dirt track catalogs are your friend :evil

I have about 7' of stainless Aeroquip line that I have had for several years, just never did anything with it. I am about to do my fuel pump, so I thought...what the hell, why not use this stuff up. (I have had it for several years just laying around)

After doing a little research, the rubber hose is sort of becoming a thing of the past. As others have pointed out, the types of fuel available are changing, as is the engineering of vehicles. Even though that Gates link is a sales flyer, I am 100% confident that what it states is true in that rubber fuel line breaks down.

I think when I do my fuel pump, I will install the Gates hose. Overkill, maybe. Needed, no. Want, yes. Piece of mind for only a few bucks (my oriley has it for $4.60/ft), yes.

FWIW, I have used quick disconnect hose fittings on rubber line. It works the same way. I will not do the fittings on the fuel pump. -I will just use a stainless clamp

A pair of these quick-disconnect fuel taps will certainly help. I've been using them for years now, available soon to everyone...

This replaces the petcock as well?

looks interesting and very handy. Instead of turning off the fuel petcock you can remove the quick connector, so the flow is cut! :clap

I have something similar on my 990, but uses stock components.

Leave the taps in position and turned on, fit one of these in the centre of the balance pipe, near the battery, protected by the bashplate

both connectors seal as soon as they are uncoupled, so no leaking fuel and no fiddling about with pliers trying to get the hose clips off the stock taps.

I`m guessing these are plastic.
Good Idea, but in time these can break.
