BDCW standstand relocater broken bolt
 

Hi,

I have a BDCW standstand relocater bracket, the other day I broke the main bolt that runs through the bottom of the engine. For the moment I put a 5/16" bolt from home depot in to get me by but want to fix it properly

Note is not a fault of the product as such, I do load it heavily as the wife gets on the side-stand side and then I get on. We try to minimise the weight when getting on and off, but there is always some weight.

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? And if so did they find a solution to prevent it happening again.

Did you say something about putting the bolt in backwards?, was looking at ours the other day so was wondering about a solution but not sure which the problem bolts is, gotta pic?

Yep - got here last night, went through Nogales in the end - about 3/4 hour and that included a dog going through the car. Mexico was brillant, wish we had much more time down there I hope you and Ellen enjoy the rest of your time.

There are two bolts that hold the bracket on, one goes the engine mount (front) and the other through the R/H centre stand mounting bolt (rear). The one that broke was the long one that went through the engine.

The bolt broke at the end of the thread. I was thinking that turning it around so the head was on the side-stand side of the bike and the thread on the other side might give take some of the load off the threaded part of the bolt.

I meant to show you when I saw you the other day but amongst all the stories it skipped my mind. :D

You're not supposed to kickstart it while it's on the side stand. :D

Good point :D, also check your Halogen fluid in your headlight too after leaving your key on at Al's :D

Yes it has happened to other people. Two things, use a high strength bolt not a regular one and snug the bolt now and then. The bolt breaks when it has a little play in it. When it is tight, there are no sheer forces on it. I have mine reversed but more for sidestand sensor clearance with a slightly longer bolt.

Craig can you fit an 12.9 Cap bolt? ... super strong!
