For those who like Guns n' Roses (The original, not the new crap)
Here's a slice-of-life story about their guitarist Gilby Clarke and motorcycles:

That was a good read.

I live in Lafayette, IN where a couple of original GNR members hail from, my son even goes to the same high school as Bill Bailey (Axl).
There's another avid motorcyclist from the band and though I haven't met him I understand his preferences run toward the German and Austrian Marques - Jeff (Izzy) Isbell. |
Great article.
I remember someone here posted an RR about his trip to Sturgis traveling with Gilby, Riki Rachtman and some other celebs whose names escape me right now. It was a fun read, I'll try to find it. - edit it was OP's (Kevin) RR! I'm very jealous ;) |
Very nice. Sounds like a great guy.
But he wasn't in the original Guns n' Roses. |
Kerhonky,
By "original" I meant the band we knew through the 80's and 90's, not the flimsy reincarnation that tours today. But you are correct, Gilby was not a founding member. And he is a shockingly nice guy. If you ever walk up and say hi, he'll treat you like a friend. Quote:

Yup, we're the idiots who went and did silly stuff in Sturgis.

Duff McKagan
I recently read Duff McKagan's biography and also read up a lot on him. All I can say, I am EXTREMELY impressed with this guy. After years of alcohol and drug abuse he managed to clean up, got into martial arts and mountain biking, got married and started a family, went back to school to study finance and is one semester short of a BA degree, and started a wealth management consulting company to help musicians close good business deals and not to blow away their money. Plus, he writes a column for Seattle Weekly. In the book he mentions getting a Harley and riding for fun in the Seattle area.
I've been saying for a while that Axl is a jackass and after reading that book, he is even a bigger jackass than I had thought. His arrogance of showing up late for gigs and letting them wait for hours cost the band a fortune in penalties, overtime pay, not to mention several riots. On top of that, he pretty much blackmailed Slash and Duff into signing over the rights to the GNR label. |
That was a cool little read, thanks for posting it.
