They always say..start with the end in mind. With that, here's the track that leads to the holy grail (AKA the end of the Trans Taiga)

The Trans Taiga Section
http://blaster11.smugmug.com/Motorcy...e%20map-XL.jpg

Not too much too many ways to slice this one...so track is probably 99% done for this section. We'll come enter from the east via dirt. And depart via tarmac on the south

http://blaster11.smugmug.com/Motorcy...TopofJB-XL.jpg

The outbound route

So, the only requirements for this leg are:
  • Must depart MD
  • “Kancamaugus Highway”, RT-118 Warren NH to RT-112 North Woodstock,NH combined with RT-16 from Conway, NH to Berlin, NH to include Mt Washington Road* http://www.motorcycleroads.com/Route...shire_105.html
  • Must ride Mt. Washington
  • Must end in Forestville, Quebec at the start of the dirt

http://blaster11.smugmug.com/Motorcy..._Page_1-XL.jpg

Forestville & Let the Dirt Begin Track
This one is entirely dirt and will need work before departure. For one, not sure how long it will take to do it. For two, not sure which track (grey or red) will be want to do. Right now, the grey has the most intel is the preferred route.

Some tracks from travelgravel.ca and big thanks to Rhino for the RidVenture track!

http://blaster11.smugmug.com/Motorcy...XL/leg2-XL.jpg

Homeward Bound
The homeward bound the pink line is tarmac, and the I've found a few other dirt tracks. Although, there are quite a few hazard markers, and not much time!
So, the only requirements for this leg are:
  • Must depart Radisson
  • Must enter US via Niagara Falls
http://blaster11.smugmug.com/Motorcy...ebound1-XL.jpg

The last leg
So, the only requirements for this leg are:
  • Must depart Niagara Falls
  • Must end in Maryland

http://blaster11.smugmug.com/Motorcy...lastleg-XL.jpg

This track will need a lot of modifying, and likely will get clipped to "fastest" route home. By mileage, there isn't a ton of to cover...but I think we'll be chewing some serious time on the dirt

If you are looking for something different that saves the in and out on the TT, I suggest flying the bike out on a float plane from the end of the TT to LabCity and make a loop out of it, especially if you haven't road the Trans Lab yet.

If you need other routes besides James Bay Road there is the established North Road route and then some other newer routes to the newest hydro projects that should be open to the public by now. I would do some checking with Quebec Hydro and just see how much of the new stuff is open instead of just running up and down on the JBR.

Take a tour of the facility at Radisson and a helicopter flight if you really want to see the size of the place. Major Hydro:eek1

And since we had the kickoff meeting last week, here's where the conversation is currently:

Quote:

Day 1 MD to Warren NH (overnight) 518 miles
Day 2 Warren to Tadoussac (overnight) via Mt Washington 518 miles
Day 3 Tadoussac to Auberge31 (overnight) via Forestville, Rte 385, and Labrieville 240 miles

another possibility would also be to go via Rimouski and take the ferry to Forestville.

I don't know about day two. Seems like schedule will go way long?

-- It probably takes 2 hrs do Mt Washington (30 mins up, 30 mins down, and 45 mins to walk around up there and 15 mins to saddle up)

--I like to go for the full cavity search at the border it seems, so I probably need 30 mins to cross

--The ferry had a line last we did it, it was 15 mins to cross, but it took us 2 or 3 rotations to get loaded. (15min -1 hr delay)

Thoughts?

We've done the Trans Lab in 2011, but do you have contact info or cost for the plane? I love options!

No chance they are digital/on-line maps, or do you have to order them from somewhere?

Added a bit more data to the first few posts....keep checking the first posts for new information since that is where I keep the important stuff and the rest is just working the details.

THink you missed some thing here - why go through Forestville to Baie Comeau and then come back to head to the dirt? There is an Econo-Lodge in Forestville
Some other calculations of mine
Day 9 385 miles (extra gas required)
Day 11 I think closer to 200 miles

Don't you just love kibitzers? :D

No idea on cost as I didn't fly out, just really like the idea. The big operator in the area is http://www.airsaguenay.com/

Don't know, check Quebec Hydro.com maybe...

Nope didn't miss it. There is a dirt loop (grey line) which starts in Baie Comeau (far right of this map--camera icon)...and ends in Libreville (gas icon). Forestville is 40 miles south of Labrieville. So, we can stay the night then launch again in the morning back to the dirt.

http://blaster11.smugmug.com/Motorcy...XL/leg2-XL.jpg

My bigger problem is where to stage for the night. I doubt well get into Baie Comeau on night 2 (which would put the mileage a bit over 600/day). Previously, we estimated 513 miles into Forestville..and we have three other time delays that day.
