Dual Sporting Around Catocin Mountain Park & Michaux SF (PA)

Here's a nice 90 miles in Catocin Mountain Park & Michaux State Forest. Noob friendly, bike bike friendly. All fire road or tarmac. One open water XCing which has gravel bottom.

Hey!

I drove out to DD31 from sunny West Chester, PA and did this loop in reverse until dd03 when I decided to bail and take back roads home. Total mileage ~400 mi for the day.

Great loop. Liked the easy going gravel, and a few nice breaks for some twisty black top. I saw very few people on the roads, a few pickups parked here and there. Also saw a 3+ foot rattler crossing one of the roads that I thought was a stick until I got really close!

No pics as I always knew it was going to be a long day. Thanks for the great route!

Very glad you enjoyed yourself. I am jealous that you probably got better weather too!

Wonderful Fall ride

Rode the route this past weekend. The weather was a bit grey, but that actually kept the traffic down except for a few groups of hunters out enjoying the state lands as well. The stream crossing was a little high, but completely passable. Thanks for a great ride, Dorito!

Thanks, I've added this to my list of rides I want to take.

I really didn't think of it, but it is probably an excellent Leaf Looking route. I'll need to remember to go north in the fall time frame next year!

Any camping along the way?

Dorito 06-08-2014 07:08 PM

Yes, Michaux does have a few developed camp grounds which you pass right by. However, be fair warned, they are family oriented. The bath rooms are very modern, however, the fee is spendy. I'd bet that they early part of the track has some camping, although it's not as obvious.

Lastly, Michaux is only a stones' throw from Gettysburg, which will have camping and all other needed supplies.
