I bought the 1200GS in 2004, and replaced it with the anniversary model 800GS in 2010. The _only_ time I miss the 1200GS is when I'm on the highway for long hauls, and that's very infrequent. Most...

Desierto 3 or Mirage 2?

I know the Mirage 2 hasn't been out for long, and that the Desierto 3 is more expensive. But, I haven't seen either in the wild, and online pictures only tell so much. So, for those who have seen...

While BMW's 1200GS may be too much bike for you, have you looked into their smaller GS bikes, like the F800GS or 650GS?

You'll hear this a lot, and for many people, it's right on. But I have...

Thanks for the recommendation, OverlandHank!

I'm only at about 600 miles, but I can say that my 800GS performs admirably on the highway. I traded in my 1200GS for the 800GS, and aside from the seat being less comfortable and the windscreen...

Regarding the 9" Safari's, they're not "officially out" yet, which is why they're not mentioned on the site or available in all colours yet. I imagine once production ramps up and there's decent...

Rick, I ended up going with the Jesse luggage because of the slimmer profile. I really do like the design of the Micatechs, but the lack of an exhaust cut-out and the wide racks just don't do it for...

That's my only complaint with the Micatech system. I get wanting to maximize space, but the bags sit so far out compared to the Jesse bags. If they sat closer in, the decision would be a no-brainer.

Which colour Jesse to which colour bike?

How are people matching bike colours to bag colours? If I go with the Jesse bags, I'm not sure if I should go with black or charcoal. Have the 30th anniversary white model.

Jesse/Micatech: conflict with exhaust and/or luggage rack?

@Bucko - Yes, my 1200GS uses servo-assist for the brakes. In my situation, it's not just comparing a 1200 with the 800, but specifically, the first-gen 1200 with the 800. Maybe this doesn't matter...

Trade-in '05 1200GS for 800GS?

I picked up a 1200GS in '04 - it was my first bike and became a fun weekend toy while I lived in the San Franciso Bay area. It has a meager 7k on it, and while I could have picked up a leaner bike,...

That's not entirely true. The Garmin 60CS is a perfect size for hiking, and has decent battery life so long as you're not using the backlight too much.
