Dont forget that the GS Basic is a different bike from the G/S. It is a late production airhead paralever bike. I dont believe they were available in the US and were built in 1996 and 1997.

Heck the R80G/S didnt come with a tach as it was an option. Mine is ridden hard from time to time, and I have never had any problems with it. The engine is stock and seems to be fairly bullet proof....

If all you are trying to do is adjust the endplay, this is what I did. I slightly loosened the nut on the rocker shaft. Then I took my c-clamp and put a large socket on each end of the rocker blocks....
