On the 1150 the cat does indeed reduce the sound considerably. Most who remove the muffler ass a turn down pipe and the DB is barely noticeably higher, and just a bit throatier!

Odds are your brake light bulb is loose or not making good contact in the socket. Take it out and make sure the contacts are clean and bent so they stay tight against the bulb!
