Found the problem - the intake pipe on the right side, inside the airbox, was melted and had drooped down upon itself effectively sealing the tract!

Yeah, that was my first thought - that I had dislodged the throttle cable when r/r the tank.
I really hoped that was it but alas, I fear it is more serious.
