Yeah, mine give a brief flash when the key goes on. Might not be enough to trigger a relay though. I do use the high beam wire to trigger my driving light for full power though.

I don't like using the headlight because when you turn the key on it briefly gets power. I'd rather use a source that comes on with the key and stays on. Like Jim showed.

Water typically isn't an issue with mineral oil based hydraulic systems like the 1200 GS uses. On a system that uses brake fluid, which absorbs moisture, that would be a possibility.
