I finally got around to making one of these bashplates, it is 3mm thick (thicker in some places) and the weight is just under 1.1kg.

The lay up was 4 x carbon, 3 x carbon / kevlar and 2 x heavy...

True, the refueling speed is an advantage but if you only want 15min run time you can run a small battery pack with a charge time of ~ 15min.
The new Lifepo4 cells can do 2000 cycles without issue...

Yeah, that's the way I've done it on my EXC. You just need some nice rubber lined P-clamps.
