Looks ARE important

I don't think that's vain - I had a 696 for 4 years and loved the looks, sound, smell and character. I have a Daytona 675 in red - gorgeous! I was won over by the looks, then by the motor, then by...

Thanks. So far, I really like the ER6N. It's nimble, light and small. It is a better city bike than the VFR is mostly because of its size and weight (about 100 lbs lighter). I installed a Givi trunk...

If you consolidate, than you will likely be able to afford a more expensive bike. if money no object, than it would be hard to beat the KTM1190. I would keep the monster and get a vstrom (DL650),...

Soul

I hear you....soul is important. My previous ducati 696/termi had plenty of it. My Daytona 675 is a much better sports bike and has some soul with the Arrow exhaust, but not the same. I still miss my...

All have been mentioned

The Honda NT700 Deuville if you can find one would be quite inexpensive since it didn't sell well.

The Ninja 650 should work well, though I am not 100% sure of the passenger accommodations and...

Fun or practicality

There is no comparison, as you said. The street triple is mental. It is a lot more fun. The F700 is a much more versatile bike. For city commuting and twisties the street triple is a lot more fun,...

My experience

Congrats on your bike!
I have ridden the SV650 (rented in CA) and have owned a 2008 FZ6 for 3 years and 12k miles. It is actually quite a decent two-up bike. My wife preferred it to my 2007 VFR....

Look at the newer monsters

So, I has a 696 for 4 years and since it was not my only bike I put only about 7000 miles on it. The 2010+ monsters' handlebars are taller than the older models and they have a small fly screen that...

So, thank you all for the input. As I was browsing CL looking for SV's I ran into a couple of Kawsaki's Er-6n. I started reading about them. I also kind of liked the look. There was a mint near new...

vtwin dual sport

One last bike to mention, the Aprilia SXV 450/550 as a v-twin dual sport. That being said, I think they are not very reliable and are setup more for off road than a DR650.

Thanks for the feedback - that helps. SV's are also easier to find. Looks like the 2007/08 were available with ABS, but due to the fact that it was $1000 on a relatively inexpensive bike they are...

1989 Honda NT650 or 1999 Suzuki SV650?

Another vote for the ZX-9

I think it also depends on how big you are. If you are on the shorter side, you want a bike that is comfy but smaller (e.g. CBR600F4i, GSX-R750, R6S). As a few people mentioned, ZX-9 from '98-00. I...

I have had a 2008 FZ6 for 2.5 years and 11.5k miles. I changed it to a VFR. I now own a 2009 Red Daytona 675 as well. I am not a big guy at 5'8" and 140 lbs. I bought the Daytona 2 hours a way by...

DR's

BMW makes gloves for big hands as well. For a waterproof and comfortable glove that won't break the bank, try their All-around. It comes in sizes 12-12.5 and 11-11.5
