On my XCW, I used a $0.75 snap action switch from All Electronics. Had to use some double sided tape and solder a couple wires but has worked for thousands of miles.

I am the who did that, I installed my own connector as there is not a connector directly from the odo. You have to remove the connector from the odo to access the wire and make the change.

Same problem here with the sidestand on the 14 model. I had a friend build me an adjustable stand and while we were at it put a larger foot on it.
