I've done the octane trick while riding in the Hopi reservation, and honestly didn't notice any drop in performance. I'm sure dyno tests would prove otherwise, but id didn't "feel" any different.

FWIW, I've run 87 plenty of times when 91 was not available and it's never been an issue. If it's an occasional thing, I personally wouldn't sweat it.

That's bigger than the one gal. The problem with the larger Rotopax is that they cover most of the plate, so lashing on your bags becomes a bit of a PIA.
