Yep, it tends to get pissed off when giving it throttle on washboard dirt. Thank goodness for the dirt mode on the BMW ASC. It seems to be fine if I switch to that mode.

Basically correct. My 09 has a red hard plastic insert that has a vent hole higher up in it. I believe all the GS and GSA from 09 or 08 on had them. Don't know about the water cooled though.
