Why not thread the aluminum stem down 4-5 inches, then screw in a piece of long threaded rod with a ton of red loctite, leaving enough sticking out of the top to place a washer and nut up top.

I had a similar instance on an R60/5 I owned years ago which turned our to be a failing condenser that worked fine cold, but failed when hot.

BMW G/S (and GS) question: "Points in a can" and water crossings ?

So, I converted my G/S to "points in a can" from the original electronic ignition just because I wanted to.

Here's the question, will water crossings necessarily kill my ignition should the points...

Really good, but after adding two click of comp and rebound to the rear shock (which really changed the behavior of the shock!) I had a few small instances of speed wobbles coming home on the freeway...
