No, you don't even need to use the clutch, a lot of us never do except to start out from a stop or to slip it a bit to get over some obstacle. Not necessary for shifting at all.

Synchromesh transmissions all do that. Most bikes including all Japanese bikes I have ever heard of are constant mesh transmissions, they have no need for synchros.
