Align them the same way with the opening down. Place over the shaft of the sensor and run the bolt through the sensor and shims.

Sounds more like a grounding issue. Check your cabling, battery and starter for starters. Still worth it to swap the relays, but yellowing light and intermittent flicker always says poor ground to me.
