Did you push the pistons all the way back in the caliper?

If you've done that, you can slide the caliper itself in and out from the caliper bracket,
but this obviously only changes it's position...

The old carb'd F650 bikes had a different cush drive with 6 rubber and accordingly 6 slots,
they've been known to sometimes break...
