Also, make sure the carb vent hoses are exiting the airbox. This can cause surging if the aren't vented correctly.

Glad it worked. It is just a personal preference thing. I see a lot of crash bars on bikes that never go off road (not yours!). Also, some of the other brands seems to use flimsy crash bars.

Yep. Don't worry about buying a bunch of expensives add-ons. It does just fine stock. You will determine which, if any, mods make sense for you sometime later.

Just add fuel and enjoy.

I also think it is the carb vents. Not an uncommon error. It produces the exact symptoms you are experiencing. Do yourself a favor and check this first before doing anything more radical.
